The effect of rehabilitation exercises on the mechanics and physiology of transitional movements in people with type 2 diabetes: A review study

Purpose: Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes and accounts for 90% of all cases. Although, diabetes has the ability to make the patient suffer movement problems. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of rehabilitation exercises on the mechanics and physiology of transitional movements in people with type 2 diabetes. The persent study was a systematic review.
Methods: The search for articles in Persian and English was from the beginning of January 2019 to the end of September 2024, wich was done in the citation database of Wos, SID, MDPI, Scopus, ISC, Science Direct, PubMed and google scholar. 76 related articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Finally, 61 articles that did not meet the selection criteria were removed and 15 articles were selected for final analysis.
Results: The findings of 5 studies showed that rehabilitation exercises in sand, progressive resistance exercises and Pilates exercises lead to improvement of motor performance. The results of 4 studies showed the positive effects of aerobic exercises with different intensities on neurological function. The findings of 3 studies showed that aerobic exercises reduce inflammatory indicators. 2 studies also showed that exercises with various exercise intensities and thekarotherapy are effective in improving skeletal-muscular pain caused by type 2 diabetes.
Conclusion:The results showed that rehabilitation exercises with a resistance approach can have a positive effect on improving transitional movements, nerve function, inflammatory indices, musculoskeletal pain and quality of life of type 2 diabetes patients.
